Summer Fun!

This summer, ShakeOut! is happening in some special and stunning locations in Sheffield and the Peak District.

We have summer camps at the Botanical Gardens for children aged 6-12, with fabulous themes – Natural Rhythms and Seeds of Imagination, and brilliant family fun sessions at Longshaw and Ilam Park in the Peak District.

Aspects of movement, dance and drama, all inspired by nature, will be woven together into memorable summer camp sessions. With energetic games and ice-breakers to bring confidence and fun, we will then explore the Sheffield Botanical Gardens to conjure some magic! We will use poems, puppets and music to plot and co-create movement and dance pieces inspired by the awesome world of plants and creatures that grow and live there.

Our summer camps are led by First Aid trained and fully qualified ShakeOut! teachers, with inclusivity and a welcoming, cohesive atmosphere at their core. Children can attend one or more of each camp.

For the whole family of movers and shakers, there are free ShakeOut! sessions at Longshaw and Ilam Park’s Summer of Play, in partnership with the National Trust in the Peak District.

We have three dates at Ilam Park, near Dovedale/ Ashbourne, in the White Peak:

Sunday 27th July brings movement fun and games, with several sessions throughout the day, led by Jenny and Ruby. We will celebrate the wonderful wildlife of the Peak District and Ilam Park by dancing, stretching and sharing some summer joy!

Sunday 3rd August the music and movement will bring the countryside to life with Rythmic movement and dance workshops – Jenny will work with the brilliant Ruth Harneis of Kind Yoga and FunDrum – to weave magic into the happenings and get the whole family on their feet!

Finally, on Sunday 17th August, Angelina Abel of Mulembas D’Africa is joining us. Angelina is the Angolan-born, Portugal-raised choreographer and artistic director behind Mulembas d’Africa, a Sheffield-based African movement that offers classes and cross-cultural workshops. She is also the creator/founder of MAMAWE Afro-Pean dance festival. Her work draws on Angolan Bantu spiritual movement traditions and prioritises the primal power of movement for personal growth and community bonding.
